When Willie Mosconi concluded his questionable record setting run, the person doing the counting came up with a total of 524. Willie insisted that he ran 526. It was that 2-ball difference that prompted Mosconi to write his book.
Whether it was 526 or 524, even those numbers have been in dispute since the day(s) it happened. It has been suggested that on a couple times the ball did not actually make it into the pocket. Willie used the defense that faulty equipment (the pocket) wasn’t as it should have been. Supposedly the referee allowed this argument on one, and some say on two occasions.
Then again some kinda snicker because it was performed on an 8-foot table and not a 9-footer. Which makes no difference to me. Running that many on any size table is one heck of a feat.
