In actuality, the key factor is whether the object ball is rolling (soft shot) or sliding (hard shot) when it hits the rail, But the above idea generally works.

You don't achieve an equal angle bank shot by merely shooting it. Speed is a huge factor. Shoot an equal angle hard and you'll come up short. Shoot it soft, and you're liable to come up long. Try it. Often it is a better option - depending on the position you want - to use this fact to aim your shot. Rather than change your aiming point you change the speed to get the required angle.

I disagree... how you aim a bank shot has nothing to do with how you aim a kick shot... you can kick to nearly any point on the rail and sink the ball. it's all about sidespin
to achieve an equal angle bankshot you need only shoot it.. to achieve an equal angle kick you must perform a stop shot at the contact point on the rail... to achieve equal angle.. by varying the side spin you can send the cueball off at any angle you desire..IMO that is the primary difference between a kick and a bank.

u firgot to mention the fact that curved balls will mostly miss with that technike so make sure u hit the ball at the center else it will never work out, thats wat's different from a bank shot
