Practice and drills are the best way to go. You're not going to get too much better just playing games. You have to figure out what you need to get better at and then do drills that help you get better at what you want. Good players practice until they get it right, great players practice until they can't get it wrong.

The best way to get better is to play players that play better than you do. Watch how they play, as for pointers. Some people will not help but most people love the fact that you admire their game and are willing to help.
Also, Go online to YouTube and check out some of the videos for inside information on shots. I have a couple on there.
Hope this helps... Angela

Play players better than you. Keep your eyes open and your mouth shut (unless asking questions). Buy an inexpensive cue, it'll help you gain confidence and also make you shoot straighter. Last but not least...HAVE FUN!
Take your time and slow down. Aim your shot and envision the object ball (what your aiming for) going into the pocket. Right before you stroke the cue ball, look at your object ball (this makes a mental dotted line to the object ball). Soft shots for close up shots, medium for long distance, and hammer strength for the break.
A pro pool player I'm friends with gave me some sage advice. He told me "you gotta lose 5,000 times before you can win once."
What he meant by that is, every time you lose you gain knowledge, and within 5,000 or so games, you should have gained enough knowledge to be a consistent winner.
