Johnny H has got this one.

A wood cue will warp eventually no matter How it`s placed .
i.e. Standing upright in Any rack, stuck flat up against a wall, or hanging from the ceiling; as long as it is exposed to changing temperatures and humidity.
The softer\poorer the wood used to make it, the faster and more severe it will warp.

Get a case!
Even a Soft, lined one is better than open air storage.

Yes gun racks have a tilt to store cues them need to be really straight up and down if stored vertical.

Unless it's perfectly vertical, I wouldn't recommend it. Wall-mounted cue cases are specifically designed to keep the cues straight up and down. If the cues are leaning in any particular direction, it will speed up the cue warping process. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
References :
yes if oyu have one hanging up on the wall horizontally the down force (gravity) will, over time, cause your stick to warp.
